With age comes change and I am about to make a BIG change in my life. It might not be big to some but its gigantic for me. I've finally decided to "make nice" aka "chill" aka "date" guys who might actually have some type of genuine romantic interest in me. I know what your thinking, "How in the hell does she not date guys who like her?". Well I've always messed around with guys or hung around with guys who I knew in the back of my head would never try to "wife" me or make me their girlfriend. It wasn't a conscious decision to do this but as time went on I just stuck with the same motive. So now I am 20 something fabulous young woman and can proudly say, that I have never been in a serious committed relationship. I've consciously and unconsciously have avoided committed relationships for fear of "losing myself". Even when I did fall in love with a "homie with benefits" I knew in the back of my mind that we would probably never be together anyway. So now I am making a conscious decision to only date guys who like me in a romatic way.......
so no more.....friends with beneifits. Maybe this decision is kinda based on my "most recent" homie cutting off the nookie ( for reasons I dont really know and he wont disclose) but either way its a good decicison. Maybe now I can actually use some of my date clothes that I have to go on REAL dates (ie. not just chilling at his crib watching movies) but actual dates that encorporate me wearing heels and him waiting at my door with flowers. Lol.

There aren't a lot of things in this word that I truly dislike but my major dislike/minor hate is for Liars. I can't stand when people lie about who they are/what they are. Liars to me are cowards who are unable to truly love themselves. Liars are people who like too deceive & manipulate. Im not talking about those lil lies such as telling the police officer who just pulled you over that you weren't speeding when u darn well know that your ass was going 20 mph over the stated speedlimit. Okay. So this year for my birthday I decided to kinda party in style. lol. (This is gonna be a long picture post so bare with me). So here in Washington, DC the CBC (Congressional Black Caucus) is in town. Which means Professional Gorgeous Black Men in Suits all the time. Mmmm. I love me some chocolate brothers. Thursday night my friends and I decide to hit up "The Park at Fourteenth" because we wanted to chill, mingle, and get our dance on with the upper elite. Thursday night went like this:

• Got to the club at 10PM….Praise the Lord there wasn’t a line at that point because we needed to be there before 11PM to get in for free.
• Folu, LaKeisha, & Erica show up a few minutes later.
• We peep out each floor and see the local celebs.
• Stephen meets up with us but has to pay $30 to get in.
• We dance our asses off.
• A random guys invites us into his VIP section. (I reckon his friends didn’t show and he felt alone…lol.)
• Random guy decides to tell Angel that we (Folu, Dede, & I) that we are beautiful young ladies.
• Random guy buys us water & drinks.
• Random guy then decides he doesn’t want Angel near “the beautiful young ladies…us”
• Random guy pushes Angel.
• Angel gets my attention….and says we have to leave before he starts beatin ass.
• We leave Random guy in VIP by himself mad and drunk. Lol.
• We proceed to then dance more.
• Feet began to get sore around 2 AM. So we decide to leave.
• Went to Adam’s Morgan to Freets and Falafas.
• Then we go home cause we all have to wake up in the morning to go to work.

• I scored horrible on my GRE so I have to retake it.

Imma do better.......I haven't been eating my 3 square meals a day like I've supposed too. SO starting today. I will eat breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Im also gonna cut any milk products out of my diet and go semi go back to my Vegan roots and try not to eat sooooo much junk food ie. Chips, Pizza, Candy and etc.. Why do people lie to themselves?

Is it because we don't want to deal with the real world and have to confront issues and decisions that we don't want to make?

Everyone lies to themselves. Including me.
Whether it is about jobs, family, friends, or either myself people do not want to deal with conflict of the everyday life and just want to turn the switch off.

I've lied to myself many times when it comes to emotional feelings of regret and hurt. I put on the face of this hardcore rugged, nothing can hurt me persona for years. Even when people do upset me and make me sad I never confront them on it and just let it fall to the wayside because to me if someone knows your weaknesses they can use ur weaknesses against you. But for now on I will never let that happen again.
Also,
When your in a situation that involves other people's feelings in the decisions that you make many people usually base their decision on what would be best for that other person and tend to not consider what's going to best for themselves. I too am this way. I rarely am selfish and tend to be there for my friends whenever they need me. But I have go to realize as I have gotten older that I can't always put others' feelings and needs before my own. I have to come first and my decisions shouldn't be based on what will make him/her happy but will make me happy.

I reckon this blog is just a jumbled mess of stuff only meant to make since to me. :-)

I seriously need to get back on my grind and pack the "lazy Jade" into a suitcase and through it into the Atlantic because she is only holding me back.

So I've lost a lot weight due to being stressed out over the past 2 months. I haven't weighed myself lately but from everyone that I haven't seen within a month has been saying, "You've gotten so tiny". Truly I am a natural skinny girl but I've never been this tiny in my life. So begins the quest to gain healthy muscle. The sports and fitness geek that I am is looking at this gaining weight/muscle idea as a challenge. Starting tomorrow, I will eat 3 balanced meals and only drink water & soymilk. I know some of ya'll are thinking isn't 3 meals a day normal? Well for me it really isn't. The only time that I do eat 3 meals a day is when I am competing in collegiate sports but sense all of my NCAA eligibility has ended (8 months ago) I haven't been eating properly and surviving off of 1 meal a day. If my mom knew this she and my dad would be lecturing me for hours. lol.

I will also start running everyday atleast 2 miles to start building my endurance back up because it has completely gone to hell but also adding sprint routines to build power and agility. Along with the running Strengh training will be included. The fitness freak in me is visializing my routine right now. So tomorrow is the 14 of August and by October 14 I am expecting to have gained atleast 8 pounds of muscle with muscle deinition in my legs, arms, stomach, and lower back.

RIP Doobie & Uncle Jerry

August 3, 2008 at 8:14PM I got a call that changed my life. My cousin Joanna calls me hollering and screaming, "He's Dead", "He's Dead". It didn't hit me until she Yells, "Doobie is Dead". My heart sunk to the floor. The first thought that came to mind was ..."this is a dream". Doobie cant be dead. Within the next few hours I gained information from various family members in Mississippi that my 15 year old cousin Doobie was swimming with his family in the Pearl River. I river I drive across every time I go to my grandmother's house. A river that not only took his life but the life of his Father, my Uncle Jerry. Doobie started having trouble while swimming when he called out for his Daddy. At that point his father jumped in and went to rescue his son but at the same time after reaching him and trying to bring him back to shore they both went under the water. Even after many other cousins jumping in to look for them it wasn't successful. At 9:15PM I got a call that they found their bodies.

I wasnt able to leave Maryland immediately knowing what happened because my Mother did not want my sister and I driving. So I ended up taking a flight out on Wednesday, August 6, 2008. Being at home calmed my soul. My family sticking close to each other to wipe each other's tears showed me that family is always there and if one isnt strong enough to stand there is a cousin, aunt, sister, uncle, or grandmother to help you stand.

Saturday, August 9, 2008 the double funeral was held at Doobie's high school gymnasium to a packed crowd. Filled with loved ones, fellow students, teachers, family and a host of others to remember the life that Doobie and his father Jerry led.

I will never forget you lil cuz and I will never forget you Uncle Jerry.

Family Friends Future

My sister and our friend Folu have been looking for a house to rent but EVERYTIME we find a house somehow were never able to get it. This has happened to 3 houses and we've been looking for 2 months now. Im starting to take this as a sign from God that he must not want me Washington, DC for too much longer. Everything that has happened to me including heartbreak is seeming like a sign from God that he wants me else where. My main excuse on staying up here was for me to be accepted into a Doctorate program somewhere before I decide where I'm gonna go. But I don't even know for sure anymore if I want to go to get my Doctorate. My sister is probably gonna move too since she found out her now Ex-boyfriend has been married for the past year...(thats another story to tell another day) so wherever I go she is probably gonna come...which is a plus cause my sis and I are really close. Okay......If you watched the CNN last night you know you would have seen......."Black In America". I totally forgot it was on so I didn't start watching until 10 PM. So what I did watch left me feeling........I dunno. I have no idea how it left me feeling. The show was already pointing out things that we as "Black Americans" see everyday. We know that black women have children out of wedlock; that black male homicides are more frequent than any other minority or majority; Black women are starting to date outside of their race because a lot of black men aren't into dating sistas who have their own money and etc. To me this program just shows the rest of the world what the "Black American" community deals with on a daily basis. I will be watching the todays showing. What do ya'll think of CNN's "Black America"?

I saw bestest on Monday for the first time in 6 months. Was it awkward? A little. Was I nervous? Hell Yeah. lol. Of course I tried to play it off but he was nervous too. Why do we get nervous around each other but can tell each other EVERYTHING. lol. He asked me to be the Godmother to his child. I was completely shocked. All types of questions were running through my mind...."Does his babymama/girlfriend/wife know that he wants me to be the Godmother?"...."Does she approve?"....."Is she only approving of it cause she doenst want to upset him?". Not until last night did I tell him that I wasnt feeling comfortable with being his child's Godmother. I wasnt really able to explain to him why cause after 2 calls and a voice message left on his phone he never got back in contact with me. So I ended up sending him a text. I hate sending texts like cause you never know how the other person receiving the txt will interpret what you are conveying. The reply that I got back from him was..."Okay thats fine." I know he wants to know a detailed explanation of why I dont feel comfortable about being his child's Godmother but I reckon I'll just have to wait to hear from him.

Back up ur hard drive... I have come to realize...well I've always known I was a "Back Up", "Insurance", "Wifey Material". I was reading Lola's blog today (Which I visit everyday cause she is da coolest. Lol.) and realized that a lot of girls who were the tomboys, good girls, artsy girls, and vow to stay a virgin until married girls were and maybe still are considered a lot of guy's "Back ups". I for one am considered a "Back Up". For most of these girls and me including their guy friends and guys that they used to "talk too" but never committed too see them as "Back ups". These guys might not realize that we know this but it is very evident to us. As long as I can remember I was "the one" they could see marrying and having their children. But none of them would date me cause to them I was the one they wanted to treat right and marry so therefore if we did date and it didn't work out their "Back up" would no longer be existent. The same goes with the guys I used to "Talk too" but would never commit too me. These are the guy friends that I hear from every 2 to 3 months calling to see how I'm doing....and try to ease the question "Are you dating anyone?" without coming out and bluntly saying those words. In middle school I was never boy crazy even though I look back now and realize a lot of the boys I would draw tattoos for were crushing on me. I just thought they liked my art. Anyway, in high school I still wasn't boy crazy. I decided even when I was in middle school that I would never date "seriously" with anyone until I reached the age in which I was thinking about marriage. So in highschool I decided to just have fun (be a playa). I knew that there were boys who liked me but I would never give them the opportunity to take our friendship any further cause I wasn't looking for a serious relationship. My sister even told one guy friend after he approached her by asking if I would be down with becoming exclusive with him....her exact reply to him, "Jade is only gonna play you". Lol. My sister only told him the truth cause before him I had already left 2 guys in the dust with bruised hearts.

I'm not gonna lie. I do have "back ups" of my own. I think every woman has that man in the wings that would end things with his baby momma/ or dump his current "chick" to be with you. But for me I've decided to get rid of all my "Back ups" and just continue to be their homegirl for life without thinking ,"If it doesn't work out with__________ I still got _________".

Relaxed vs. Natural

I've come to dislike my relaxed hair. I dont know anyone who has relaxed hair like my sister's & I's hair.

Pros about my relaxed hair:
It doesnt fizz
It doesnt require alot of moisture
It is easier to manage.

Cons about my relaxed hair:
It wont hold curls (ie. hot rollers, roller sets, curling irons,& etc.)
Its just lays flat no matter what I do with it!
It splits and damages really easily

According to my mother and by recollection of my hair at the ages of birth to 6 years of age I remember my mother getting frustrated with my sister and I's hair. lol. I distinctly remember my mother hot combing my hair while in my Grandma's kitchen and her burning me several times. lol. My mother just wanted a better way to deal with our hair.

I got my first relaxer when I was either 5 or 6. I think I was 5 cause I was still in Preschool. My mom got tired of trying to manage my sister and I's natural hair cause it was really soft and curly (similar to "Mixed girl" hair). So she decided that she would relax it. My mom got a lot of heat from my aunts, grandmothers, and other family members for relaxing our hair so young. But I couldn't blame my mother she had 2 daughters whom she had to do their hair EVERY morning and evening.

This is a picture of me when I was 5 years old. I was graduating from Preschool here. My mom hot combed it for this picture.

After I got my hair relaxed when I was 6 years old my mom would braid & moisturize my sister's and I's hair EVERY night before we went to bed. During the summer when we would go swimming...either it be a chlorine pool or pond in the pasture she would coat our hair in cholesterol so it wouldnt get damaged and she was also use a special shampoo that would take the chlorine out of our hair. Overall my mom did a great job with our hair.

I have NEVER worn weave or "weave braids" in my hair. My hair has always been fragile and sensitive to anything pulling on it. Even during the summer when I would braid my natural hair and keeping it braided for just a little over a week upon washing it I would have severe damage and breakage. So I try to stay away from braids or anything of the sort. During the summer of 2000 I decided to grow out my hair and see if I could "handle" it. I approximately had about 4 inches of new growth within 3 months and was unable to control it. So I relaxed it prior to returning to school that following August. Looking back at that incident of "growing it out" I wasnt too keen on taking care of my hair. I would never tie it up when I slept or wash and moisturize it.

So every since I was 6 years old I've had relaxed hair but now I am truly thinking and considering going natural. My cousins Shea & Clare rock their natural styles and fierceness and confidence. The only qualm I have about going natural is what my natural hair will look like. I can barely remember the texture of it when I was child and maybe the 17 years of timely relaxers has changed the texture of my hair altogether.

Up until a year ago I would get a relaxer about every 6 to 8 weeks. Even at 8 weeks my sister would be like, "You don't need a relaxer" "Your hair is still straight". But I did find out that getting a relaxer timely it prevented my hair from becoming damaged. But within the last year about the 3rd week prior to receiving a relaxer I would have at least 0.5 inch of new growth. Right now I have a little under 1 inch of new growth and it will have been 4 weeks since my last touch-up.

So I have come to the decision to TRY and grow my hair out. And see if I can handle it. Oh. I will NOT be cutting my length while growing my hair out. It would be WAYYYY to traumatic for me. Lol. So for the next month and a half I will be rockin this curly/straight look until I can come up with a definite decision about my hair.

I am sooooo tired of looking for somewhere to live. For the past 3 months by sister and I have been trying to find a house to rent. So far everything we like has already been rented or the house is in a bad neighborhood or isn't up to par with what we want. We decided a little ova a month ago that we were gonna have to have a roommate. Our friend Folu is gonna be living with us. She has a stable job and is just a really chill person. She is currently staying with Dede and I at our current digs until we find a place. House hunting is like job hunting. Its stressful as hell. Especially since we need to live within walking distance from a metro station. Hopefully some of these houses we see this weekend will be a winner. Prayerfully!
